These are the fruits of the caper bush and are native to the Mediterranean. They are oblong in shape and a green colour and are slightly larger than a grape. Caperberries are often consumed in pasta dishes or salads but they can also be eaten like olives.
The lemony taste has been described as slightly milder than a caper. Caperberries contain good levels of antioxidants as well as important vitamins and minerals such as iron They are preserved in a brine and store well for long periods of time. Used on charcuterie plates and in olive medleys, the caperberry is an excellent complement to cheese boards.
